Stress And Environmental Factors

The pace of modern day living can take its toll on everyone, causing many people to suffer from the effects of stress of which there appears to be no escape: financial problems, uncertain futures, noise,

air pollution, the list goes on. 

The toll that stress can take on the body is limitless: it causes muscular tension, your heart is made to work harder, you burn excess energy unnecessarily, get fatigued, depressed, your immunity lowers and you can become more prone to infections and diseases.

Adrenalin is a stress hormone, also known as ‘The Fight or Flight’ hormone. It helps to prepare the body for increased exertion, mentally and physically, but research has shown long term increased levels of this chemical can be detrimental to your whole wellbeing.

Sometimes the stress cannot be avoided, so the only alternative is to deal with the effects of stress. Treatments and therapies help to restore vitality, release tension and reduce the overworking of the body’s systems.

Although ideally eradicating the causes of the stress completely from our lives is the best form of therapy, Holistic treatments are largely the best way by far to help cope with these symptoms.

What is Holistic

The word ‘Holistic’ is derived from the Greek term

‘Holos’ which means whole or multi-dimensional (think

of a hologram). It's about treating the body as a

whole: the mind, body, and spirit.

If the mind, body and spirit are not functioning as a whole it has the potential to disturb the natural balance and stability needed for health and wellbeing.

It is to nurture and nourish the entire being, because if we ignore any of these areas, we are incomplete, we lack wholeness and one does not function properly without the other; dysfunction of the mind can create ‘dis’-ease in the body HISTORY OF HEALING MASSAGE.

Holistic Healing - Holistic or "Wholistic" healing addresses all parts of the individual, not just the physical aspect of a person where manifested illnesses are most apparent. Holistic healing is not intended to serve as a band aid or a one time fix. It is an ongoing journey of discovery in search of more answers and ultimately; living better, feeling healthier and being more in tune with your body as a whole.

Holistic healing is really a lifestyle approach. The holistic approach goes far beyond the Mind-Body connection of finding and maintaining wellness. Overall wellness AND "wholeness" is highly valued. All parts of a person's life, The Physical, The Emotional and The Spiritual needs and values, are considered. Taking the holistic approach involves seeking the tools that are suitable for our individual selves enabling us to become empowered.

Touch therapy is often undervalued, underused and sometimes grossly misunderstood. In truth, massage is an advanced and conscious form of our instinctive and innate ability to offer healing through the laying on of hands, whether it is the stroking of a furrowed brow or the rubbing of an aching shoulder. 

In this respect, physical contact may be just as important to our health as food and cleanliness. When touching takes the form of skilled but sensitive massage, not only does it relax and revitalise an ailing or tired body, it is also a way of communicating warmth, reassurance and a sense of self worth. That special attention can also improve self image in people with physical disabilities and terminal illnesses and using touch to convey caring can help Children and Adults alike.

Contra Indications

Contra indications are physical or behavioural reasons that would prevent a massage from taking place in full (or in part) safely.

A Consultation form must be completed prior to treatment in order to ascertain whether you have any contra indications

or 'special care' conditions present. This is done in order

to prioritise your health and the health of me as your therapist.

Massage is generally safe as long as it is done by a trained Therapist, but massage isn't for everyone. If you have any medical conditions identified on the Contra Indications page or are in any way unsure, please either contact me directly or speak to your Doctor (before making an appointment). In the case of certain conditions consent will be required from your GP or Specialist.

Contra Actions (Healing Crisis) - After your treatment you may notice some changes to your general state of mind and body. These effects are only temporary and should subside within 48 hours.

They will be replaced by a feeling of vitality and well being after the body has re-balanced itself.

After Care - To gain the maximum benefit from your treatment it is recommended that you relax, increase your intake of fluids (to help flush out the toxins) and enjoy a light healthy diet.
